Mayfest Radio
Did you know that radio is my favourite artistic medium?
My first ever work experience was for a local radio station when I was 14 (that was Two-Ten Fm, for any back-in-the-day Reading-cats). Since then, I have seized numerous opportunities to contribute to, perform on and host radio shows, including national and local BBC stations.
One of these gigs was being Mayfest’s roving reporter in 2015 and 2016, creating the shows It Must Be Mayfest and Field Notes, with producer Luke Emery. Mayfest Radio serves Mayfest, Bristol’s unique annual festival of contemporary theatre, by creating a meeting point for arts, theatre, performance, music and discussion, in the form of our temporary internet radio station during the festival.
I love the potential of live and pre-recorded broadcast, of a creative experience that is free-of-cost and fully curated at the point of reception. I love that I can listen to the radio while doing other things with my hands and eyes. I love blending speech and sound in order to create a tapestry of sonic experience that touches the insides of bodies. I love showcasing voices. I give about 2-8 hours of each day listening to a wide range of radio from all over the world. I love radio.
